Best Storage for under the bed
Either people don't use it or use it inefficiently. Using the space under your bed as a storage space can be a great way to keep your room tidy and organised.
If you haven't considered using under bed storage in your home, here are some tips you can use to free up space and make the most out of your existing space.
Clear containers for long-term storage
Clear plastic containers are a great option when storing items away under the bed. They come in various sizes and are a great option for items you don't use that often. Think of different blankets for the different seasons, this way you only need to get items out once every few months.
Using the underneath of your bed gives you more space but it shouldn't be for items you require quick access to as it can be a pain to access them. If you do need quicker access you should get rolling under-bed storage drawers.
Rolling under-bed storage draws allow you to get access to your items more quickly as they are on wheels and can be pulled out and pushed back in with minimum effort.
Organising your shoes
If you don't want to use big containers under the bed but would like to make the space practical then your next option could be to use the space as an area to store your shoes.
Often cupboards aren't large enough to store large shoe collections so having extra space is always a bonus. Storing your shoes under the bed can be difficult though because it's hard to keep them organised and together. This is where a shoe organiser comes into place. Often these organisers are made out of material so they are easy to move.
If you do buy an under-bed shoe storage option, you should get one with a dust cover, this will keep your shoes protected and cleaner for longer.
Fabric under bed storage
Plastic and wooden under-bed storage can be heavy and hard to move, if you need something a little lighter you can opt for a fabric under-bed storage bag. These bags are made from a breathable material which protects your items from dust while still being lightweight.
If you do opt for a fabric storage bag we would suggest getting one that has a plastic top so you can see what items are in there without having to pull the bag apart. If you can't find one of these just make sure to label each bag when storing items in them.
Items you shouldn't store under the bed.
While under-bed storage is good for hiding items out of sight and giving you more space in your room there are some things you shouldn't store under the bed.
Heavy items shouldn't be stored there because your body is in the wrong position to get heavy items out which could lead to injury. Secondly, if you have wooden floors and you drag your storage boxes out with heavy items in them you can damage your floor too.
You shouldn't also store items that you could forget about. Under the bed is great for storing items that you use once or twice a year but if you don't use them you will forget about them. This just adds to the clutter in your home and if you don't use the items you are better off donating them to charity or putting them in a self storage unit.
If you need more space, hire a storage unit.
When using the space in your home effectively you will be surprised how much more you can store within it while keeping the clutter down. With that said every house has a limit and if you are at breaking point with the number of items that you can store you may want to consider hiring a storage unit.
Storage units are flexible and you can hire as little or as much as you want without having to break the bank. Self storage containers are much cheaper than adding an extension and can make your home far more enjoyable by freeing up space. Having a cluttered home can make you stressed so not only will your home look nicer but your mind will be calmer too.
