Best parks in Cardiff to go running in.

If you want to keep fit without going to the gym, or if you have just moved to Cardiff and want to know the best parks in Cardiff to go running then keep on reading.

Winter is approaching very quickly so most people will want to stay inside and keep warm, but with winter comes the coughs and colds that can be easily spread indoors, especially in gym environments.

Bute Park Cardiff

We have to start with Bute Park as it's one of the nicest parks in Cardiff and it has enough open space to run and do a variety of other exercises in. While the gym can be boring, being outside in Bute Park is the exact opposite. With beautiful trees, flowers and Cafes to top up your water while you run, Bute Park is one of the best parks in Cardiff to go running in.

You can make your own track or follow an existing one, if you use an app like Strava you can see the existing tracks that you can run in Bute Park too.If you want to get a run-in before work, Bute Park is a great place to run as it opens at 7:30am. You can find out more about Bute park on their website at:

Bute-park.com

Llandaff Fields

If you are looking for a smaller park in Cardiff to go running in and don't want so many people in the way when running, Llandaff fields is another excellent choice. The running area within Llandaff fields is around 3km in length so if you are a beginner runner then this is a great place to start.

Llandaf fields has plenty of flats and are open 24 hours a day. It also has adequate paving making it easy to run on when wet. There's also plenty of parking nearby which there is more than enough space in the Winter. During summer the car park can get full quickly so just be mindful of that.

Roath Park Cardiff

Want something a bit bigger that can challenge you with distance? Then Roath park is the park for you. With a 30-acre lake in the centre, Roath Park is large enough for the most vigorous workout routines.

Roath park has enough flats and gradients in it to be challenging to a new runner and if you have moved to Cardiff and want to make new friends there are plenty of local running clubs that you can join to do so.

You can access Roath park by Car or Bus with both the Cardiff Bus Service and Traveline Cymru having routes to the park. Roath park opens at 7:30am.

Victoria Park Cardiff

Out of all of the parks in Cardiff, this is my least favourite park as it's often very busy making running around it difficult. However, in the Winter the crowds aren't as busy and it's more than suitable for running.

The ground in Victoria park is often covered in leaves and can be dangerous if you aren't careful. If you decide to run around Victoria Park then be mindful of your surroundings.

Victoria Park is a great park to run in if you are looking to train for an event such as a 5k run. 3 laps of the park come in at roughly 5k so keep that in mind when running.

You can once again access Victoria park via Car or Bus.

Final thoughts.

Moving to a new area can be difficult and Cardiff is no different, but once you know some of the best places to visit you can become more familiar with the area. Cardiff is a beautiful place and the parks here are worth visiting whether you are running around or taking a slow stroll.
